About

Rainbow Bridge Projects LLC was created from a simple idea; that no one should have to grieve the loss of a beloved pet alone.

What began with an idea for a Rainbow Bridge in a small mountain community—where thousands come to remember and celebrate their beloved pets—has grown into a vision inspiring communities across the country to create their own places of healing and hope.

Rainbow Bridge Projects has a mission to inspire and celebrate spaces where grief is met with compassion and connection. We believe that the love we have for our pets transcends individual loss. As we gather in memorial and celebration, we discover the profound commonality of being human—finding comfort, hope, and purpose in the presence of those who once gave us so much joy.

Through each bridge built, communities invite healing, remembrance, and a sense of connection across our shared journey.

Today, Rainbow Bridge Projects connects individuals, artists, volunteers, and local organizations who share that vision. Together, they exchange ideas, resources, and inspiration so communities can learn from one another and bring new Rainbow Bridges to life.

Every Rainbow Bridge begins with one person who cares.

If you’d like to start a Rainbow Bridge in your community, share your story or support a project already underway. We would love to have you as a part of this growing network.

The Rainbow Bridge Poem Story

For many who have loved and lost a pet, the Rainbow Bridge poem has offered comfort and hope.

Edna Clyne-Rekhy's Original Poem

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge...
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here,
your pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends
so they can run and play together. There is
plenty of food, water, and sunshine,
and friends are warm and comfortable...

All the animals who have been ill and old
are restored to health and strength, those who were
hurt are made better and strong again,
like we remember them before they go to heaven...

They are happy and content except for one small thing,
they each miss someone very special to them
who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes
when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance,
his bright eyes are shining (sic), his body shakes...

Suddenly he begins to run from the herd, rushing over the grass,
his legs carrying him faster and faster,
and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cuddle in a happy hug never to be apart again...

You and your pet are in tears.
Your hands again cuddle his head and you look
again into his trusting eyes, so long gone from life,
but never absent from your heart,
and then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together...

- Edna Clyne-Rekhy, (Inverness, Scotland. 1959)

The Rainbow Bridge poem was written in 1959 by Edna Cline-Rekhy after the loss of her Labrador, Major. She shared it quietly with family and friends, never seeking recognition. As it was passed along, the poem spread across the country and eventually around the world, becoming separated from its original author for many years. Today it continues to bring comfort, hope, and healing to millions of people grieving the loss of a beloved pet.”
